Hi, my name is Sasha. I am a black woman, mother of a black boy, social worker, daughter, sister and friend. In 2015, after I became pregnant and gave birth, my world became different. I was forced to grapple with the trauma of birth, postpartum depression, and a huge identity crises. Everyone was happy, while I was crying in-between naps. I knew something was wrong but had no one to talk to. The world made mothering look so easy, even with no handbook to guide you. Over the next couple years, after speaking with other mothers among my clients and colleagues, I realized that I wasn’t the only one who felt alone.
I created BareFacedMama as a platform to explore and understand what holistic wellness can look like among mothers within communities of color. My hope is to ensure that other mothers, whom I have yet to speak with, know they are not alone and that it is okay to ask for help. This will be done by barefacedly sharing experiences of mothering within communities of color.
